Record Breakers!

We have done it!

KIDS KIP FOR CHARITY

-          Children set a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Sleepover over 24 Hours

20,000 participants took part in the Giant Sleepover on Saturday 19th June, giving thousands of parents the night off! Over 500 groups snoozed their way through Saturday night, breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest sleepover over 24 hours, while raising money for children’s charities and good causes. Midnight feasts, gossiping, giggling, and late night whisperings were all the order of the day (and night) with events taking place in the UK and abroad.

The sleeping was not just restricted to the school hall with several sleepovers being held in unique and unusual venues; 50 kids from 14th Hackney Scout Group slept at Hamleys Toy Shop (Regent Street) in a giant inflatable sleeping bag, Park Town Junior Youth Club braved the ghouls at London Dungeon and Paddington Bear joined the Northolt District Guides at LEGOLAND Windsor.

The largest sleepover took place in Lancashire with 1,000 West Lancashire Cub Scouts camping out for the night.

One of The Giant Sleepover founders Sandie Dinning comments; “The kids have had a great time this weekend and I think the parents have quite enjoyed a night off too! What is great about The Giant Sleepover is that the kids have so much fun while also learning crucial social and behavioural skills and how they can play a part in helping others. This weekend has been a triumph for The Giant Sleepover with huge support from children who care.”

The Giant Sleepover has grown from just one school’s commitment in 2003 to a well established annual event and now a Guinness World Record this year. Outside the UK sleepovers took place in Australia, Bermuda, Brunai, Germany, New Zealand and the Falkland Islands.
